The
Union Mills Gallery
Review
of ex-LNWR G2 by Richard Bardsley (full review can be seen in Journal
1/05)
Union Mills take
their locomotives very seriously and have kindly supplied a sample to
the Society for review, an ex-LNWR Class G2 0-8-0. I cannot comment on
the accuracy of the chosen prototype but the model is well finished with
a very nice matt black paint job and lettering. However, what really matters
is how it runs. My layout is a small oval with 12 inch radius curves and
three feet between them (no gradients). The loco performed straight from
the off with a small load of ten open wagons of old / new Farish, Peco
and various kits. I steadily added wagons 10 at a time and there was no
problem. I stopped at 55 as I had run out of wagons! The length of the
train was such that much of it was on corners at one time (corners generate
more resistance in a train). The loco continued to run at a scale speed
of about 20mph though it was quite happy to go a lot faster when asked
to.
